Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I need to be to use Grinde?
Grinde is for users aged 13 and older only. When you first launch the App, you'll be asked to enter your date of birth. If you are under 13, you will be permanently blocked from creating an account on that device.
Your date of birth is checked locally on your device and immediately discarded. We do not store it.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time directly in the App:
Settings → Delete account
Deletion is immediate and permanent. Your data is removed entirely from our systems — there is no grace period and no recovery. Make sure you really want to delete before confirming.
If you have any issue with in-app deletion, email support@joinmao.com and we will process your request manually within 30 days.
How do I sign out without deleting my account?
Sign out is a separate action from delete. Go to Settings → Sign out. Your local session is cleared, but your account and all synced data remain on the server so you can sign back in on any device.
How do I reset my password?
On the sign-in screen, tap "Forgot password?" and follow the instructions sent to your email.
If you signed in with Apple, password reset is handled through your Apple ID settings.
How does the free trial work?
You get 10 days of free access to all features. You can extend your trial by redeeming a referral code from another user, or by having others redeem your referral code.
There is currently no paid tier.
How does the referral system work?
Every user has a personal referral code. You can redeem someone else's code, and others can redeem yours. Successful redemptions extend the free trial period for both users.
How does the AI work? Is my data safe?
Grinde uses OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini model to generate personalized daily plans based on the goal and situation context you provide.
What is sent to OpenAI when you generate a plan:
- Your goal, selected paths, and stage assets.
- Your last 2-3 days of completed and swapped tasks.
- Your recent weekly events and free-text notes.
What is never sent to OpenAI: your email, name, Apple ID, user ID, date of birth, referral codes, XP/level/streak data, or device data.
OpenAI may retain API request data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deletes it.
Your account data and progress are stored securely in Supabase with row-level security — meaning only you can access your own data.
We do not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs, crash reporting, or any tracking technology.

Is Grinde free?
Yes — Grinde is currently free, with a 10-day trial that can be extended via referrals. We may introduce paid features in the future, and any charges will be clearly disclosed before you incur them.
I think someone under 13 is using Grinde. What should I do?
If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe your child under 13 has created a Grinde account, please email support@joinmao.com immediately. We will terminate the account and delete all associated data within 7 days.
Do you share my data with anyone?
We do not sell or rent your data. We share information only with:
- Supabase — for secure storage of your account data.
- OpenAI — for generating your personalized plans.
- Apple — only if you use Sign in with Apple.

What are my rights under GDPR?
If you live in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent. The fastest way to exercise the right to deletion is via Settings → Delete account in the App. For other rights, email support@joinmao.com.
You can also file a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Germany, that's the Hessischer Beauftragter für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.
I have feedback or found a bug. What should I do?
Email us at support@joinmao.com with as much detail as possible — what you were doing, what happened, your device model and iOS version, and a screenshot if you have one.
